October 2007

September 2007

Not a lot happened in September. Auburn started off its football season and we had some people over to watch the game. The next week I went home and spent a few weeks with Mom and Dad and Katie came up to visit me. While it was kind of nice to be back home in a house I didn't have to worry about cleaning, it is kind of hard to go back to living under your parents' roof, especially when you've had your freedom from rules and curfew for so long. Nonetheless it was great to be home with the family and Duke!

Randall, another AU boy, and I sang a rather moving rendition of "You Shook Me All Night Long" after Auburn's victory of Kansas State.

I almost forgot, Daniel also became a barber in September, shaving Pedro's head for the first time after. This is the before...

The during...

And the after. In my opinion, if engineering ever falls through, Daniel has a sure thing to fall back on!

August 2007

I started working at the Fort Christian Brew Pub and also enrolled in online schooling. Daniel and I are still getting used to the island- he isn't homesick but is ready to be out of the rigorous training he is in until October and I am just ready to see some familiar faces. Hannah and I became instant friends and had lunch dates and girl outings as often as we could be she had to return at the beginning of the month for school. She will return in December for the month after she and Jason get married. Here are just a few highlights of the month:

Daniel got his first paycheck

I learned how to salsa dance from the Puerto Ricans!

We went out to eat one last time with Hannah and Jason before Hannah headed back North

July 2007

July 2007 is probably the hardest month of my life to date. This was the month Daniel and I made the big move from Memphis to St. Croix, over 1900 miles away. I had left every comfort behind and was not happy about setting out on this leg of our life but I figured God always had a greater plan. Daniel on the other hand couldn't have gotten out of Memphis fast enough. Unlike me he says he has no desire to ever live by his mom, but if I could I would probably still live with mine. These pictures are from that month. Notice there are few of me from the move, probably because my eyes were always to swollen from crying to open them long enough for a picture.

This was our welcome basket from Hovensa. Unfortunately it didn't have Mom, Duke or any of my friends that would have brought me real comfort.

After about three weeks of living out of suitcases our boxes finally arrived. Also by this point we had moved into our new condo at Carden Beach, Unit 5525, our own little piece of paradise.

When the boxes first arrived I didn't think we would ever get settled in. Daniel was leaving everyday around 6 in the morning and not getting home until 6 at night and I just didn't see and end to the boxes. Eventually we got there, like we're talking in October right before Mom and Dad, our first visitors, came.

This picture is from one of our first outings with other island people. We went to Chenay Bay with two other couples who had also just moved here- Kathy and Anthony Stellerine (who have already left the island and moved back stateside) and Hannah Williams and her fiance Jason Pennington (Hannah and Jason are both AU people also, Hannah is in her third year of pharmacy school and Jason started the same time as Daniel but unlike Daniel is a mechanical engineer.)

Toward the end of the month one of Daniel's bosses and a fellow AU alum invited Daniel and me, as well as the other AU newbies Hannah and Jason, to go sailing for a day to Buck island, the island our condo faces. It was a lot of fun until I started breaking out from the salt water and our captain- Mr. Marion- was nowhere to be found for 3 hours. All in all though it was a lot of fun and made for some really good drunk boss stories.

Daniel learning how to work the jig. I just found amusement in watching and taking pictures while working on my island tan.

This is from our first poker night with the Hovensa crew. Friday poker nights now are usually a monthly ritual.

Please bear with me....

while I figure out the logistics of this thing and how exactly to format everything, right now it's just not working to well.

More of June... THE HONEYMOON

Daniel and I went on a short honeymoon to Lake Tahoe before our big move. Tahoe is truly one of the prettiest places I have ever seen and I fell in love with it immediately. Now of course, with my luck and all, the wildfires of 2007 that hit Tahoe, just so happened to start the day we arrived. But we truly tried to not let that interfere and we still enjoyed as much as we could from hiking and rafting to sea-doo-ing in some freezing water!

This wa
s our cute little cottage (Ehrman)

And look how excited Daniel is to be married to me :) Haha yeah right, he just wasn't
cooperating with taking pictures.

Our fireplace and champagne that they gave us with out humongo dessert.

As for this picture all I can say it don't mess with two kids who grew up on the hardened streets of Memphis.

This is probably both of our favorites..... Like I said there were forest fires while we are there, and while there were definitely visible flames all around this sign, they still felt the need to put up a very high warning level... do ya think?

We found this beautiful scenic lookout, but unfortunately, as you can tell, it was so smoggy from the fires and smoke.

About to go sea-doo-ing. The lake was so clear you could see so deep down. After years at Pickwick, this was definitely strange!

Starting this Thing Out

So, I am new to this whole blogging thing and not really sure how it all works, but I thought this would be a great way to keep everyone up to date on our lives while we are living the Caribbean lifestyle. I guess I am going I'll take a look back at our first 8 months and give a brief summary to catch everyone up! First up, June 2007 - The Start of it all: Our wedding! Sorry about the copyright stamps I haven't uploaded my cd's yet so just pretend they aren't there for now!
